AS
WELL AS RESCUES, THERE ARE SOME NO-KILL SHELTERS LISTED ON THESE PAGES
AND THEY ARE NOTED AS SUCH -- HOWEVER, PLEASE DO CALL AND
RECHECK THAT THESE ARE INDEED "NO KILL" BEFORE SENDING ANY
CAT THERE!
Animals
accept people for who they are, not what they should be.
Don't you think that animals are deserving of the same treatment?
Special Needs Rescue was designed specifically to help all animals
with permanent disabilities or health problems (i.e. blind,
diabetic, FeLV +, 3 legs, etc.) find thier "forever
homes." If you are willing to help find homes for
an animal with special needs by adopting, fostering, or
transporting, or if you know of such an animal that needs
rescue, you are invited to join.

AMERICAN
CURL
ONLY NATIONWIDE
It
is unfortunate that as this rare breed grows in number and in popularity, that
instances of American Curls being dropped off at shelters are occurring. ACRP
is a volunteer group of people who are familiar with and love this very rare
breed of cat and are dedicated to the rescue and placement of any abandoned or
surrendered American Curls. Our purpose is to provide assistance in
educating shelters, rescue groups and veterinarians about how to identify an
American Curl and to aid in the rescue and placement in permanent, indoor homes
of any abandoned or surrendered American Curls found on the street, at shelters,
rescue groups, or veterinarian offices.

BENGAL RESCUE
BENGALS
ONLY WORLDWIDE
The
Bengal Rescue Network is an organization formed by volunteers. All of its
members are active Bengal cat enthusiasts who truly care about these cats' well
being and happiness. Many of our volunteers show and breed Bengals and
hope to ensure that NONE of these cats roam the streets, go hungry, sleep in the
cold, lack affection or end up facing an uncertain future in a shelter or humane
society. The purpose of this network is NOT to advertise kittens or cats for
sale; our mission is to help cats in need of new homes, find people with room in
their hearts to adopt them.

Birman Breeders through the world are concerned about the unwanted pet population. Acting on this concern, pedigree cat breeders have incorporated spayed/neutering clauses in their sales contracts. In addition, we take the ultimate responsibility for every cat we bring into this world with a clause stating; if for any reason you can no longer keep the cat, and can not find a suitable home, the breeder will take the cat and care for the cat until a suitable home is found. Although it is rare, it does occasionally happen that a Birman falls through the cracks in this system. To insure against this from happening we have BIRMAN RESCUE.

PERSIANS

Our goal is
the rehoming of Persian cats, so this list provides a means for
for people interested in adopting a Persian to find a Persian cat
in Rescue and for Persian Breed Rescues & fosterers to
communicate with each other. Tips on Persian grooming and care are
also provided for owners who request help in dealing with their
Persian. In far
too many cases, people give up animals because they do not
understand animals basic behaviors & needs or because of
"lifestyle" changes that are beyond their
control. Please do help educate others about each
species or breed BEFORE they get a pet & caution them to ONLY
get a pet if they can honestly commit to that responsibility for
the lifetime of the animal. If they are considering buying a whole
animal as a pet, please tell them the advantages of spaying or
neutering that pet. Only a very few purebred cats, as identified
by knowledgeable breeders, are likely to contribute to their
breed's important health, beauty and temperament characteristics.
It is a rare cat that is qualified for a responsible, pedigreed
breeding program! If a person is not ready to undertake the
markedly increased level of commitment to the breed which breeding
entails, then other options are available that will still allow
them the enjoyment of their chosen breed. Please ask them to
consider the neutered or spayed rescue cat as one of those
options! THANKS FOR CARING!

Rexcue Railroad members are interested in providing transportation for rescued Cornish and Devon Rex to their new homes. Other "mutant fur" breeds such as the Sphynx, Selkirk Rex,
Peterbald, Don Hairless, American Wirehair and LaPerm will be considered on an individual case basis. We only transport altered cats that are rescues. We do not transport cats that have been purchased from a breeder. Another cat may join the ride but only if one of the listed breeds is also being transported. All drivers must have a plastic cat carrier. This list is NOT intended for people who want a free cat! Additionally, owners may discuss the special emotional and physical needs a rescued cat may have. Remember to practice safe Rex: spay, neuter and rescue. Flaming will not be
tolerated

S.A.B.R.E.
is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit breed rescue and education organization that was
founded in 1994. Our goal is to provide a haven for unwanted purebred Abyssinian
and Somali cats and place them in responsible homes, as well as educate people
about these wonderful cats and their needs. We place spayed and
neutered cats either by taking custody and fostering them, or by assisting
owners place their cats in new homes directly through our "match up"
program. All cats adopted through S.A.B.R.E. are guaranteed FeLV/FIV negative,
current on their vaccines, and spayed or neutered (with no exceptions!). We
screen potential adopters because our goal is to adopt out each animal once, so
we want to make sure we place the cat in the right home on the first try.
Although we have a waiting list, a cat is not placed on a "first come,
first served" basis, but rather is placed in the environment that is best
suited for its particular situation. If you want a kitten, S.A.B.R.E. is not the
place to look. Although we have had rare occasions where we find kittens in need
of rescue, this is not the norm. Most of the cats that come through S.A.B.R.E.'s
care are older than two, often older than five. Abyssinians and Somalis are
beautiful animals, with friendly, outgoing dispositions. They are very athletic
and active cats which thrive on interaction, affection, and play. Although
beautiful, an Abyssinian or a Somali is not the ideal cat for everyone. They
have a lot of energy and demand a lot of attention. People who purchase one on
impulse from a pet store are often unhappy to find that instead of a mellow,
independent, albeit beautiful cat or kitten, they find themselves with a cat
that follows them about the house, gets underfoot, and may cause destruction if
ignored. They are much like dogs in this manner. They also retain their
kitten-like vitality for many years, often long after their owners expect these
cats to "mellow out."

FOLD
ONLY WORLDWIDE
The
Scottish Fold Rescue Alliance is a group of Scottish Fold fanciers
that are interested in the welfare of Scottish Folds. We are a
network of breeders, exhibitors, and fanciers both nationally and
internationally that work together as efficiently as possible
to rescue both abandoned and relinquished Scottish Folds so they
can be rehomed. The International Scottish Fold Rescue Alliance
was created to provide a central area of information that will
help us find displaced Scottish Folds new homes as soon as
possible. Please subscribe to the Scottish Fold Rescue list
and let's work together to make rescues happen as efficiently as
possible and place displaced Scottish Folds in loving homes.
The
Scottish Fold Rescue & Adoption Network is a large network of
volunteers across the US, Canada, and even a few in other
countries, who love the Scottish Fold breed of Cat and who have a
common goal. That goal is to help facilitate the re-homing
of any Scottish Fold cats who find themselves homeless, on the
verge of being homeless, in shelters, or in any number of
situations that may be life threatening. The ultimate objective is
also that the new home for these cats be safe, loving and
permanent. Our network of volunteers use the internet and our
e-mail list on yahoogroups for our primary communication
tool. Volunteers can offer assistance in many ways and
levels of dedication. From being a local shelter contact, to
providing supplies or a temporary foster home, our volunteers
offer up as a diverse group who have proven to work together well
to rehome the far too many Scottish Folds we have found in need.
