stop providing services as of this Friday.

The Suffolk County SPCA is committed to use its resources to support
the recovery process. Chief Gerald Lauber stated that the Suffolk County
SPCA will remain at the WTC until every avenue for recovering victims
      has been explored.

The Suffolk SPCA will also digitize all medical information and store the
data at the North Shore Animal League America’s veterinary Hospital.
Rescue agencies may contact the Suffolk SPCA for additional information.

The Suffolk County SPCA (SCSPCA) is a humane society chartered by
New York State in 1984. Over the past seventeen years the agency
provided services to tens of thousands of feral animals, pets, and their
owners. The mission of the SCSPCA is to devote our full energy towards
providing humane services to the pets, animals and residents of the metropolitan area.

The SCSPCA mobile medical unit is one of three units in the entire
country. At the request of the NYC Police Canine unit the SCSPCA
responded and arrived on site at 6 PM on Tuesday. The unit has
been operational 24 hours per days staffed with federal, NYC and Long
      Island veterinarians and Vet techs.

The SCSPCA has over 40 volunteers working at the site and another 10
      with office staff back up.

All monetary donations should be sent to the SCSPCA, 363 Route
111, Smithtown, NY 11787.  Volunteers are needed to help in the office.
Pleasecall the SCSPCA office to volunteer your services at the Long
      Island Office.

The SCSPCA is a volunteer agency consisting of over sixty non-paid
individuals from all walks of life. Our peace officers are both activeand retired law enforcement personnel who enforce the New York State
Agriculture and Market Law with regard to the prevention of mistreatment
and cruelty to animals. Our civilian humane workers and office personnel
are volunteers who work on non-criminal investigations as well
as delivering the support services (free rabies clinics, spay/neuter
programs/animal rescue) the SCSPCA provides for Suffolk County.

The agency currently, in addition to the 2100 plus cases we formally
investigated in 2000, provides thousands of free rabies inoculations,
conducts a spay/neuter clinic for feral cats, provides educational
programs, and supports senior citizens with pets. During the last five
years we responded to over 9,000 cases involving potential animal abuse
      and neglect.

The SCSPCA offers free rabies clinics. These clinics are offered in the
Towns of Islip, Huntington and Smithtown. Each year, the SCSPCA
inoculates over 3,000 pets at these clinics. In addition to theseclinics the
SCSPCA offers dogs a last chance for adoption through our
      mobile unit.

The SCSPCA works cooperatively with North Shore Animal League in
an effort to contain the rapidly growing feral cat population through our
spay/neuter program. To date, the agency has prevented the birth of over
1,000,000 feral cats. We are currently seeking community supportfor the
operation of a spay/neuter bus for Suffolk County.

9/28  Suffolk County SPCA Provides Veterinary Service to 429 Rescue
              Dogs

As of this date the Suffolk County SPCA in partnership with VMAT and
the Long Island Veterinary Association treated 429 rescue dogs and an
assortment of pets owned by local residents. In addition to working at
ground Zero the Suffolk SPCA is coordinating with the US Humane
Society and VMAT to provide ongoing coverage at the Staten Island Land fill for recovery dogs from Rescue International and the NYPD who continue searching for remains of those lost at the WTC.

The Suffolk County SPCA is committed to use its resources to support the recovery process. Chief Gerald Lauber stated that the Suffolk County
SPCA will remain at the WTC and Staten Island until every avenue for
      recovering victims has been explored.

The SCSPCA since arriving at ground zero on Tuesday evening houses, at
its MASH unit, veterinary services at the inner perimeter of the World
Trade Center and will provide back up coverage at the Staten Island
recovery site. As the lead animal support agency the Suffolk County
SPCA  has stationed a MASH unit to treat the search and rescue dogs
involved in the rescue operation. Because the SCSPCA is the only
humane agency  located near ground zero the SCSPCA is able to provide
immediate support for dogs and cats that need veterinary services.

9/15 The SCSPCA continues to provide the on site coordination of veterinary services at the inner perimeter of the World Trade Center at the request of the federal government and the NYC OEM. As the lead animal support agency the SCSPCA has established a MASH unit to treat the dogs involved in the rescue project. Because the SCSPCA is located two blocks from ground zero we are able to provide a rapid turn around for dogs that need veterinary services. A rapid turn around means the dogs can spend more time on the pile locating and rescuing survivors.

The SCSPCA mobile medical unit is one of three units in the US. At the request of the NYC Police Canine unit the SCSPCA responded and arrived on site at 6 PM on Tuesday. The unit has been operational 24 hours per days staffed with federal, NYC and Long Island veterinarians and Vet techs.

The SCSPCA has over 20 volunteers working at the site and another 10 with office staff back up. The Animal Medical Center is coordinating all supplies and medical personnel while the community is providing funding for SCSPCA operations. All other SPCA’s are working outside the perimeter supporting the efforts of the SCSPCA.

The Parks Department at 1 800 201 PARKS will help individuals retrieve their pets who were left at home during the evacuation. The SCSPCA will treat, at the scene, any pet in need of immediate medical attention. Once the pet is stabilized it will be transported to the Animal Medical Center.

All donations should be sent to the SCSPCA 363 Route 111 Smithtown, NY 11787 Volunteers are needed to help in the office. Please call the SCSPCA office to volunteer your services at the Long Island Office.
