Welcome to The Feline Rescue Network

The forums have re-opened!

They are quite empty, but start posting and they will be your rescue resource in no time at all. There are some new categories for discussions, so jump in and start sharing information. Post your cats that you need to find a home for, post your rescue group wish lists, post your rescue cats available.

The site is under heavy reconstruction, so please be patient if you find listings that are outdated. We are planning a major update and will be launching a new directory in the next few weeks. The software has been purchased and will be set up in the next day or so for volunteers to start adding and updating listings too.

Rescue groups start adding your sites to the new directory! Click here to go to the directory. You need to have an email address to sign up, but we do NOT send or give out your email address to anyone. Your rescue or no-kill shelter does NOT need to have a web site to be listed in the directory.

Thank you for your patience and thanks to Gossamer Threads for providing the software for the new directory at an afforable cost, and for donating the software for the new forums.

While we rebuild, you can look for rescues or add links for them at Cool Pet Sites and Cool Cat Sites. They both have sections for rescues and classified ads.

Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for a few good volunteers that have some time to devote to going through the listings on our current pages and verifying the information, then entering it into our new database driven directory. Many of the rescues and low cost spay and neuter organizations have changed information and we do not have the resources to reverify all of them without assistance. If you can volunteer a couple of hours (or more!) the Feline Rescue Community would be eternally grateful. We will be doing an offline mailing to rescue groups that we are aware of to get even more accurate and comprehensive listings. We are striving to be *the* place to come to when you have a cat that needs a home, or you need help in a rescue situation. Please use this form to contact us to volunteer.

News Georgia adds Spay/Neuter Animal Rights Tag
Posted by catnip on Monday, November 17 @ 16:20:17 PST (3692 reads)

goodmews writes "The Georgia Department of Agriculture last week showcased the first animal sterilized under the spay/neuter program funded by the Dog and Cat License Plate. "The need for the Dog and Cat Sterilization Program is evident in the number of dogs and cats who end up in shelters," said Commissioner Tommy Irvin. "Sales of these commemorative license plates will provide the vital funding needed to help us control Georgia's homeless pet population." The Humane Association of Georgia (HAGA) and other partners lauded the program, which will fill a critical need in reducing the number of Georgia's homeless dogs and cats. In fact, animal overpopulation costs Peach State taxpayers millions each year. Roughly $10 million was spent in the 10-County Metro Atlanta area in 2002 for animal control. Every year, thousands of dogs and cats must be killed in shelters throughout Georgia because they have no home. In just four years, an un-sterilized female cat and her offspring can produce 20,000 kittens. Similarly, an un-altered female dog and her offspring can produce 4,000 puppies in seven years. The Dog and Cat License Plate can help change these staggering numbers. The Dog and Cat Sterilization Program will save money and lives by reducing the number of animals being controlled, housed and killed in animal shelters. The new Dog and Cat License Plate goes on sale in county tag offices statewide December 1st for a $25 one-time fee. Proceeds from the Dog and Cat License Plate support the Georgia Department of Agriculture's newly-created program, which helps pay for spay/neuter procedures and reduces the Peach State's homeless pet population.
